This is the place where thoughts and resources for a book carrying the working title: « Hermetic transcendance ».are being collected. In this book I will essay to lay down the ontological, metaphysical, and phenomenological principles for describing human existence as a particular way of « being-in-the-world », that is oscillating between the two poles. The first being real, i.e. transcendental transcendance, and the second, hermetic transcendence. These two poles are connected by a symbolic axis, which is referred to by different names, depending on historical, cultural, spiritual, and mythological contingencies. Think of it as world tree, axis mundis, or Mount Meru.
Transcendental transcendence is what in Indic thought (Vedanta, Yoga/Saṃkhya, &c) is termed moksha मोक्ष . Hermetic transcendance is a term that describes all mundane efforts to overcome conditions nature imposes on human existence, efforts that get our consicousness entangled in Māyā माया— the web of illusions.. These efforts are technè – τεχνη , encompassing all the arts and the sciences that are not in their ultimate dimension and goal oriented towards what the Japanese call « do », a path of spiritual perfection.
Spiritual perfection, moksha, is the ultimate goal of human existence — according to Hindu lore, the highest of the four aims of life, viz. kama काम, artha अर्थ, and dharma धर्म — of which later more. While these goals may serve largely as an ideal to aspire to, these represent the ontological openness of immanence, that alone can be the basis for a truly open society.
Trying to perfect the control of natural contingencies through technological systems within the mythological framework of « progress » instead of perfecting ourselves as human beings, facilitated through education, spiritual practice, and a relationship with Nature as harmonious as possible, will only deepen our entanglement in the complexities of realities of our own making.
